Privacy policy
1. What this policy covers
This policy describes what personal data is collected when you visit this website, use Theory of Edge (the "Software") or join our partner program, why it is collected, who processes it, and the rights you have over it.
2. The website
The website uses no advertising or analytics trackers and sets no cookies. Fonts are served from this website; animation scripts are loaded from a public content delivery network (unpkg), which receives your IP address and standard request headers when the page loads, under its own terms. The hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, requested page, browser) for security and operations.
If you arrive through a partner's link (an address ending in ?ref= followed by a code), the partner code is kept in your browser's local storage for 90 days, and a single request is sent to our license server to count one visit for that code. That request carries the partner code only: no identifier of you or of your browser is stored. If you subscribe within those 90 days, the code is passed to the payment page so that the partner is credited.
3. The Software
Theory of Edge runs on your computer. Your market data, your strategies, their code, your databanks and your portfolios are stored on your machine and are never uploaded to us.
To verify your license, the Software contacts our license server when it starts and then about once an hour. It sends your license key, an identifier of your machine (a one-way hash, from which your hardware cannot be read back), the Software version and the name of your operating system. The server sees your IP address and, from it, your country. It also receives a count of the training runs you started and completed and their duration, used to keep the service reliable and to understand how it is used.
To rank the strategies of a databank, the Software sends the license server their summary statistics only (number of trades and sessions, net result, maximum drawdown, profit factor, win rate, curve stability). The strategies themselves, their code and your market data are not sent.
When you activate your license and tick the box by which you request immediate access and acknowledge the loss of your 14-day right of withdrawal, the server records the time, your IP address, your country and the version of that text, and sends you a confirmation e-mail.
4. Subscriptions and payment
Payments are processed by Stripe, which acts as the reseller of the subscription and handles your card, your billing address and the applicable taxes under its own privacy policy. We receive your e-mail address, the status of your subscription and the amounts paid; we never see or store card numbers. License keys and subscription e-mails are sent through our e-mail provider, Brevo.
4b. Free algos and e-mails
When you download the free algos, we keep your e-mail address, your first name, whether you ticked the box asking for our e-mails, the date of your downloads and, if one was created, your personal discount code. We use them to know who downloaded the algos, to answer you and, with the box ticked, to send you the e-mails below. They are kept for two years after your last download, or until you ask us to delete them (contact@theoryofedge.com).
If you tick the box, your e-mail address and first name are also sent to our e-mail provider, Brevo. You then receive about ten e-mails over a month (install tips, strategy notes, offers, including a personal 15% code created for you in Stripe). Every e-mail has an unsubscribe link, and the sequence stops if you subscribe. Without the box, you only get the download link and no e-mail.
5. Partner program
If you join the partner program, we keep your e-mail address, your name, your password (as a one-way hash only), your referral code, the daily count of visits through your link, the commissions linked to the payments of the customers you brought, your payout requests and, for the transfers, the bank details you enter, stored encrypted. Partners never see the e-mail addresses of the customers they brought; those are shown to them masked.
6. Why we process this data
- to deliver and verify your license and to pay partner commissions (performance of the contract);
- to keep the record of your consent to immediate access (legal obligation);
- to answer your support requests and to keep the website and the license server secure and reliable (legitimate interest);
- to comply with accounting and tax obligations (legal obligation).
7. Retention
License, subscription, consent and partner data are kept for the duration of the subscription or of the partnership and then for as long as accounting and consumer law require. Server logs and license-check records are kept for a maximum of 12 months. Support correspondence is kept for 24 months after the last exchange.
8. Sharing
We do not sell personal data. It is shared only with the processors needed to run the service, each bound by its own data processing terms: Vercel (hosting of the website and of the license server), Neon (database of the license server), Stripe (payments) and Brevo (e-mails).
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To exercise these rights, write to contact@theoryofedge.com.
10. Changes
This policy may be updated when the website, the Software or the partner program changes. The date at the top of this page tells you when it was last revised.
Short version. Your data and your strategies stay on your machine. The license server knows your key, your machine's hashed identifier, your IP and country, how many runs you start, and the summary statistics of the strategies it ranks for you. The website sets no cookies. If you subscribe, Stripe handles the payment and we keep the minimum needed to verify your license.
